A short look at what a first chat with your Grok Bot is like. No passwords needed. You stay in control, and you can stop anytime.

What your Grok Bot does, and never does

What your Grok Bot does

  • Guides you through checks you do yourself
  • Explains each step in plain words
  • Tells you what you'll see before you see it
  • Goes at your pace, one step at a time
  • Answers any question, even small ones
  • Lets you stop, pause, or skip anytime

What it never does

  • Asks for your passwords
  • Asks for verification or backup codes
  • Asks for remote access to your phone or computer
  • Logs in to your accounts, or asks you to let it
  • Rushes you or says something is urgent
  • Asks you to move money, or pay with gift cards, payment apps, or crypto

You always sign in yourself, on the official website or app.

A first chat, in six small steps

You do each one yourself, and you can stop anytime.

  1. Step 1 of 6

    Say hello

Open the chat and type "hi," or anything you like. Heads-up: you'll see a short welcome. There's nothing to set up and no password to create.

  2. Step 2 of 6

    Say what's on your mind

Tell your Grok Bot what you'd like help with, in your own words, like "my email" or "a strange text." It's fine to say "just looking."

  3. Step 3 of 6

    Read the plan

Heads-up: you'll see a short, plain list of steps. If it feels like a lot, say so, and you'll get just one step for today.

  4. Step 4 of 6

    Do one step yourself

Your Grok Bot tells you what you'll see first. Then you open the official app or website and sign in yourself. It never sees your screen and never asks for your password or codes.

  5. Step 5 of 6

    Say how it went

Tell the chat "done," "I'm stuck," or "skip." If you're stuck, describe what you see, and you'll get a simpler next step. Please don't type passwords or codes into the chat.

  6. Step 6 of 6

    Change or stop anytime

Pick another topic, ask for more or less detail, or just close the window. Stopping is always fine. Nothing changes unless you change it yourself.

A sample first conversation

Example only. Real chats will vary.

You: Hi, my daughter said this could help with my email. I'm not very techy.

Grok Bot: Happy to help, and there's no rush. We'll go one small step at a time, and you can stop whenever you like. To start, open the Gmail app or type gmail.com yourself.

You: Okay, I'm in. Do you need my password?

Grok Bot: No, never. Please don't share your password or any codes with me, or anyone else. You sign in yourself, and I'll just tell you where to look.

You: Got it. What now?

Grok Bot: Tap your profile picture, then "Manage your Google Account." I'll explain each part before you change anything. You decide what to do.

Trying this with family

Sit beside them and let them hold their own phone or keyboard. Point to what to tap, but let them do the typing, and look away while they enter a password. Helping by phone? Describe what to look for instead of asking for remote access. If either of you feels unsure, take a break and come back another day.
